Hah, i can't imagine carrying that with neckstraps and long lens all day. But i'm sure these MF folks will find a way.
Also care to explain a little on the 12 stop range? :] Love to learn more.
You effectively have 12 stops of dynamic range on the MF Digital sensor (between shadows and highlights)
Our eyes have 24 stops dynamic range. Digital SLR's are around ~8, sometimes 9, depending on the sensor (Canon's and Nikon's top line stuff)
Simple example; If you are shooting a scenery with a Digital SLR (with an ~8 stop range) where your meter reads 10 stops between the highlights and shadows (Highlight exposure = 500th @ f16, Shadows exposure = 1sec @ f16) you will need to make a sacrifice with your exposure because your sensor cannot comprehend such a dynamic range of information. You will need to expose somewhere in between this range or selectively expose for highlights or shadows. Shooting for HDR can be effective in capturing the complete stop range of your scene, although it is irrelevant at the moment.
