To be honest, I am not sure. They both make great stuff. Never used Nikon, but I see a lot of people using them, same with Canon. What do you think?

They are all the same! The Nikon/ Canon war started from highly opinionated people. All they could say was that their brand was better than the other brand, without real reason. Those people probably never touched the opposite brand. Anyone who sits and believes that Nikon is better than Canon, or Canon is better than Nikon is a fool. Like you said, they both make great stuff.

try to feel both cameras to see which one you perfer.

I perfer canon over nikon, due to the build.

I have small hands, and the 500D fits perfect to them, however others say that the body of the 500d (using this as example because its the camera I bought) is to small for their hands.

you want a camera that fits you well, and you want easy access to the different settings

Exactly! I've seen so many Nikon/Canon arguments. You are right, they probably haven't even touched the other side. They're both really great! I don't even know why they argue. I would like to see a test with very similar cameras and lenses to see. Switch cameras and see the difference between the same stuff, different brand. It would be very interesting!

thanks for the input guys, I hope my very first professional camera will be a great one. My inlaw has a Nikon camera, I don't know what version it is as that was my very first experience in using a professional camera. The output of the picture was fantastic, better than the Canon that I bought that was for like 300$... only reason I bought that canon was because of the large screen haha. But I think the more money you spend on a camera, it is what you paid for. So I'm putting all my thoughts and research into a professional camera that I would dedicate myself to, and maybe I will take picture as a hobby. I hope my search will be a successful one. Thanks for your guys opinion. :D

If you inlaw has a Nikon, then pick a nikon. It is a always nice to have someone to borrow lenses and talk with. :)

There's no such thing as a professional camera.

Edit:
If you like wideangle photography, do yourself a favour and get a Nikon, their wide lenses are much better.

I agree with this no doubt. Thats why I went with Nikon. Parents are Nikon users, it was way nice to be able to use their lenses.

ooo I see... I read that article about how sticking to one brand camera isn't always good because different brand has different picture taking output. But I'll surely get a Nikon because then I can borrow the lense :D Never thought about that, thanks for the tip :)

That and 50 year old Nikon lenses work so if you don't mind limited auto modes and no autofocus you can use old (perfectly good quality) lenses.
