Depending on what you are planning on shooting... Some good Nikon lenses as a starter are these:

- AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED
- AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED (3.6x)
- AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G or AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D

Some people might really disagree with the DX lenses, but you have a DX format camera. And these are fairly cheap lenses that have really good quality. I'd honestly go for at least the 35mm or 50mm and then one of the others.

If you just started and wants a new lens. Try out a Nikon 50 f/1.8. First of all it's cheap, it's fast. It helps you get down with techniques. Such as framing and zooming with your feet. Also with a fast lens like the 50 f/1.8, you get to practice and play with DOF effects etc.

Thanks and thanks ^_^
can't wait to look into these and get a few new lenses and post up some pics =D

Like mentioned before, pick up the 50mm f/1.8 for a fast prime lens. ($150)
Also, get something like the 55-200mm VR f/4.5-5.6. It is a fairly cheap zoom lens that will probably end up being your cheap all purpose lens until you get the more expensive glass. ($225)

The best lens for the money would be the 18-200mm VR f/3.5-5.6. Its a great all-purpose lens that will allow you to keep one lens on for pretty much all of your shots. It'll run you about $800usd..but its well worth it.

Not sure if I'm willing to put $800 (more) dollars into it just yet but thanks I appreciate all the input I can get ^_^

I dno why people are telling you to pick up nikons 50/1.8 as it got no AF-motor built-in, which you'd need for d3000.
I also have a nikon d3000, and my first buy after the kit lens was a macro lens, tamron 90/2.8, awesome one!
BUT, you should know what you want before buying, if you want to catch the detail in everyday-subjects/other stuff you
should get a macro lens, if you like to catch landscapes and that kind of stuff, a wide angle is the shit for you. A zoom is nothing I ever used so I can't help you out there.

Anyway, good LUCK with your photographing, d3000 is a nice beginner camera :)
