Well, you already have a somewhat zoom lens. A 50mm 1.8 is an awesome lens, and it's quite cheap.

I have a wide angle and I love it for nature photos. You can get that whole tree in the picture + the ground if you really wanted, instead of worrying about moving back all the time with a different lens. It truly is an amazing lens. I use the Sigma 10-20mm  and I recommend it to anyone that loves the out doors!

I'd pick a wide angle or a prime lens like the others have been suggesting :)

how does the 20mm compare up to the other wide angles sigma has?

and should i go canon or sigma? >.<

it does seem fairy cheap for the 50mm 1.8, im just wondering if the different between the 1.8 and the 1.2 is enough for me to worry about which one to get. ^_^

10-22 Canon

Should be able to pick one up new for ~600 american. Great lens for 1.6x cameras.

Ah, get the 1.2! I'd say it's even better ... :D But I thought 1.8 was more than enough for my needs. So whichever you prefer I guess... I don't know if there's that much of a difference, really.

I am not sure about other wide angle sigma lenses and how they compare to. I know that the 10-20mm is a very well made lens that sigma has made. I went with sigma because #1 it was a pretty decent quality lens for what I needed it for. #2 - it was A LOT cheaper than the canon model. Canon definitely has better quality, but if you can afford the Canon wide angle, then sure go for it, I know I would have! There is quite the price difference between the two though. I never heard anything bad about the sigma wide angle except that it has some distortion at a certain point, but honestly I don't notice it that much. I love it. :)

The Canon wide angle used would be even better! I don't know how the heck you find such great lenses used though >< I am always weary of buying "used" products.

Hmm best bet would be to go to one of those boutique camera stores and try them out for yourself :)

There's a couple in the Melbourne CBD that I check out often. Heaps of cool stuff. Vintage gear, medium/large format stuff, tonnes of new/used lenses and cameras.

If buying good glass (like L series stuff) second hand is fine. It's renowned to last forever.

i searched both lenses on google and the prices seem similar to be around 450~500USD

Yeah, I don't like the online thing either... you never know who's on the other end.
And eeeebay/online places really stink for buying good glass, since there's millions of people bidding on them, and I don't do bidding :D.

You mean prices for the Sigma wide angle? That's about what I paid for mine. Over 600CAD.

Ah - yeah, the only issue is that I don't have a store like that anywhere near me :) Oh well, maybe someday when I'm able to move.
