i dont think u understand that unless i had about 100 stobes there would be no wayto add light to the background. as far as the angle is concerned i was very limited on where i was able to shoot from, being as this was at a competition.

ok its understandable, but how does this change the resaults?

well u have to take the image in context when u give feedback like this. yes, the background is dark, but it also helps to isolate the subject by removing distractions, and it adds to the sense of night on the mountain.

nice observation. I actually desaturated this image a bit to help with the mood. as far as the sky being a bit boring and drawing the eye, yes it does draw the eye because thats where the frame leads, and because of the brightness. to me its the lone seagull on the rock that makes the image. i dont know if u noticed it but that is the intended focal point. i do whish there had been another something to include in the top left to stop the eye, but again u have to work with what u can :)

i noticed the seagull, but because there is so much other stuff happening on the frame the bird doesent pop out enough that i would have thought it as main subject. allso that other stuff is happening on the thirds and for example there is line on the down left thirds leading to right upper thirds, so it takes even more attention off the bird and makes eyes wander around too much that you would concentrate much on the bird since there is nothing leading your eyes to the bird other than bright light and the colors and the area where the bird is is kind of isolated from the rest of the pics where your eyes wander allso.

yes, but while it isolates the subject it allso makes bit too big contrast to the foreground and background

i assume your being sarcastic with that last sentence, but imo that pic is quite different since the light doesent cut to dark so instantly that it would look bad, atleast in my eyes

enyways i bet you can find meny of my pics with quite big flaws, but i dont even assume that theyr all perfect and im not afraid to show pics that arent even near my best

well and even if the pope had a 500x500 print of your shitty shots you´d still be hate-worthy.

being just a photography appreciator because I don't take pictures and knowing a bit about them because ex was a photographer I would like to say a few things. grainy pictures are a big no no imo. unless they help with pics like these:

http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=37994625&f=265
(btw I like these because as the photographer states, they look like paintings)

there should be no excuse...
the first you said your focal point was the seagull but there's nothing to focus on. the seagull doesn't keep your eye. tbh I really don't like the second one. the background and lighting is boring. stop making excuses as to why they didn't come out great and instead work on trying to learn from those mistakes to avoid making them in the future. just some friendly advice :) take it how you wish
