I would then just incorporate some window light, also get a white card stock of some sort and use it as fill on the interior side of the room. Crank ISO to at least 400 and hope then don't move too much. Flash is for freezing things when you have motion, the only other way is increasing shutter but if you don't have enough light, then you increase some ISO.

Get something that captivates them like a camera strap and use that to keep them interested but not excited enough to run.

Remember this is the photography forum, so no spam regarding killing animals will be tolerated.

Anyone remember that cat that was abandonned at my house by heartless city people....
Well, she got pregnant, had kittens, and now they are 5 weeks old and soooooooo cute!!!

I want to take millions of pictures, but it's too cold outside to take them, and I have limited light in my house...

Also, ofc they can't sit still and pose for me.....

I'm about to glue them to the floor....

Here's one pic I took with the flash, but it looks like the kind of picture my mom can take.....
I want better....

Please give me some tips!!!
Thanks in advance

Well, for starters, I would suggest turning off the flash when taking the pictures (especially if they are kittens). Their eyes will be extremely sensitive to light, there have been reports of cats (mainly kittens) suffering seizures etc from a camera's flash.

As for a good picture, draw their attention with a toy, prop, etc. Or you can take pictures of the cat in its natural habitat, without any intrusions. Also, try not to use zoom as most cameras tend to amplify any tremble and may produce blurred images.

Hi Mom!

Some advice I can give you:

-Try to get as much natural lighting as possible (i.e. Window.)
-Consistent background, something that won't distract the viewers eyes, but will also add some sort of feeling to the photo.
-CATS LOVE TO WATCH THINGS! What I did was tied something random to my camera, and they couldn't keep there eyes off it.

I will look for my Cat Photos and send you some to help as an example.

Love You Much,
~Donny

My advice is to get RIGHT down on the ground, like full out on your stomach. This way your at their level - it makes the pictures look a whole lot better.

Get a toy or something that grabs their attention and just wait :P or follow them around and snap away. Kittens are always doing something, they tend to be extremely curious!

This works very well. I've taken pictures of my cat before while I raised my hand above the camera to get his attention directed towards me.

By the way, adorable cat!

Hey I know this topic is old; but I recently found a very cute cat, and someone had taken some really fun and good shots of him. If you want to check them out. There are some great ideas for cat photos! <3

That's her website there, I found the pictures very amusing. If you have time she also has videos of her cat too.

To see another batch of photos, click on the side where it has in brackets numbers. It's all Japanese/Chinese so I can't read it, but they are blogs with lots of photos in them!
