Oh well...
I also had entered the Vistek photo contest, with the picture of my daughter in the wheat field (displayed on Flickr) which had absolutely no editing at all...
Sometimes I wonder it's it's a photoshop contest, or a photo contest....
Some are really great, but some are just waaaaaay over edited to be called photography imo..
But again, I'm old school I guess, and started shooting with 35 mm film back when computers didn't even exist in most homes....

don't give up ; you'll learn from entering competitions. sometimes its better to expect nothing so when you do win if u win then your ecstatic about the win where as if ur expecting it its not as exciting

You are 100% right, I know...
I was hoping so much to win that contest, cause I can't afford a new camera right now, and I don't see when I will be able to upgrade.
Yes I have learned to work with what I have and I have learned to accept the limitations of my little toy..
But for me, to see for exemple the winter picture being so much photoshopped..
And people winning being already able to afford trips to expensive countries..
I understand it's not their problem if I can't afford it...
But for me it's a heartbreaker... :(

I just need many hugs....

I had entered myself with that flower picture... not spectacular, but I had gotten so many nice reviews here I had high hopes... :(

I guess you really need to be rich to deserve to win a 1k $ camera...
The winning pictures for the 12 categories are finally out:

And I was really disappointed to see so many pictures taken from traveling in very exotic and expensive places...
Maybe I'm ranting here, but honstly, if someone can afford a 10 $ trip to Africa or India, do they really need a 1000 $ camera?
Chances are they already have better.... :(
Yes I am very disappointed..
Not because I didn't win, ofc I wanted to win..
But it appears you need to be rich already to be able to win something free...

Oh well, you guys will have to keep commenting on my pictures taken with my 250$ Canon Powershot.....

Here's one I took yesterday at my usual spot...
Yes, I always take pictures at the same places, but that's all I can afford...

Colors are changing, but the best time will be next week and the one after..
Problem is I work both week-ends and won't be available for the beautiful scenery...

And this is a valid point.

Really what you have to do is. Expose yourself to as many contests as humanly possible. Its going to do a couple things. For one, pictures are chosen by people not machines. Who knows, if it was the next day the judges might have felt a little different due to an awesome breakfast burrito and your shot could have won. Secondly, your going to get a lot more experience. Both with your pictures and with the contests themselves.

I understand you feeling down but the number one thing to remember is that rejection is a HUGE part of any art form. Its going to happen a lot and the sooner you accept it as normal and strive to perfect your art the better you'll feel.

For anyone that's interested.

aww sorry to hear that :(
I am sure those contests that involve extremely nice prices are usually won by either professional photographers who have been shooting for many many years with a massive portfolio or cheaters lol
In my opinion some of your photos do look pro and absolutely amazing like the fall photo you posted and you should be proud that you were able to achieve so much with so little ;)
