When you shoot film you dont allways remember what kinds of settings you used and how much you over/under exposed when taking the pic. Thhis makes it really crap for learning imo. With digital you can take a pic, see if dof if right for example, if its not then reshoot with correct settings.

i used my stepdads really good film camera, shot real nice and clear
i used this other camera with the same lens, and it shot not so good

That's why you buy a moleskine notebook and keep notes on everything you shoot.
