It doesn't really matter what you shoot with it's how you shoot your pictures :p
There are a few people in here who managed to take some awesome photos with simple point and shoot cameras.

Like...... me? :evillol:

I win for shooting with the cheapest camera and posting here :p

Canon PowerShot A570IS ;)
No lens, no tripod, nothing.
And I use GIMP free editing software when I have to :)

One day I hope to win a photo contest where they give away a nice camera, cause being a single mom, got other priorities moneywise...

I love the 17-55mm f/2.8 - it is fairly expensive, but the picture quality is awesome. The 17-55 2.8 and 70-200mm 2.8 is an amazing combo. You could get away with having only these two lenses for pretty much all type of photography.

Yeah, those two lenses are definitely on my list to get. They're a must have for anyone that wants to make money in the industry.

I used to think this. When light is pefect, and your subject is not moving. Yes, it doesn't matter.

But how often is that? :P

Low light, indoors, action, PnS do pretty terrible. I used to think the same thing. I tried to shoot some indoor stuff without flash with a point and shoot. Soooo I eventually shelled out for a DSLR. hah (Although some point and shoots let you adjust exposure comp/ flash comp/ etc etc so it's not too bad now, but high ISO low light performance without flash is still shit) Also if you want to play with multiple light sources, PnS can't do much for you there

I'm not putitng anyone down for shooting with a PnS, I'm just merely pointing out it's limitations :) A DSLR doesn't automatically mean great pictures, and a PnS doesn't automatically mean bad pictures.

I think what Futurama means, is that great pictures are not automatic with good cameras.
It only means you have more money and can spend more on them.

With what I have learned and improved with the guys and girls here, I think now that I have some talent for some types of pictures, and ofc I could get even better with an expensive camera.

But camera doesn't define talent.
Ofc there are limitations, but if you are good enough and have a little imagnation, you can work your way around limitations....
McGyver could do just about anything with nothing at all....

I personally think your thread is made for showing off your gear, wich is fine if it means a lot to you.

Before, I was ashamed to say what I was shooting with.
I take pride now in saying I take my pictures with a little cheap PnS.
Cause it means I did all the work, not the camera.

I will make such a topic when I have enough money to purchase a good camera to have everyone say their input about what they use and if they like it or not.

Right on! That's exactly what I was trying to say here. I have seen and known people like you who only had a simple compact camera that cost around 100 bucks and still managed to take better pictures than I did back when I got my first dslr which cost me almost 2000 bucks -.- I know the limitations of those p&s cameras but the pictures you take with an expensive dslr could be just as awful if you don't have the knowledge.

Nicely said Marie, I agree. I don't have a lot either and had to really save my money to even afford a SLR camera. I see people out there with lenses that cost more than my camera itself! It's craziness. It's good to see you take pride in what you have; most people take advantage over what they have.

Anyway, on topic now...

I use a Canon Rebel Xti with a 10-20mm Sigma lens, a 50mm 1.8 prime, and a kit lens.

That's exactly what I said at the end of my post.

I enjoyed shooting with a PnS for a while myself, so by no means do I think they are inferior at creating great pictures. ANYWAYS The reason I said what I said is that the statement "gear doesn't matter" that is overused for many things, does have it's limitations ;) If I have offended you, I apologize.

The thread is made to see what people shoot with not to "show off" gear. As you can see I don't have much gear to show off I really only use one lens.. the prime.

Besides, your last statement "I take pride now in saying I take my pictures with a little cheap PnS. Cause it means I did all the work, not the camera." should apply to all your pictures regardless of what you shoot with. The camera, DSLR or not is just a tool, you're still doing all the work, be proud either way :)

:O old school Blad and a Leica, very nice.

If you go for the 1.4, So far what I've seen, the AF-S is better than the older AF-D. Less CA and smoother bokeh.

I was thinking of ditching my D40 for a D50 as a backup body myself.

Maybe the lens is better but the AF-S is a G model, which means limited compatibility with my old manual SLR's. Guess that won't be an issue if I get the F100.

Why ditch the D40, it's the next model up from the D50? Can't say anything bad on the D50 though, I can get perfectly fine 16x12 prints from it handheld with a shit lens, and could definitely go bigger with a sharper lens on a tripod.

Also forgot I've got an Olympus Trip 35, a great little rangefinder cam, that.
