Hi Marie,

congrats on finding your new passion again, for a contest, #10 would have the best shot in my opinion just because so many people would have flowers and bugs that it's generic.
to win a contest, think outside of the box, evoke a strong emotion. something like a one-armed boy staring at into a shop with a mannequin with two hands in black and white or something of the sort is usually what they are looking for. what was the theme of the contest if you don't mind me asking

Best Regards,
Jeff

Thank you all, will wait for more input, but it'S soooo hard to make up my mind...
I want something different, but something that will be better than everyone else who will enter the contest.

It is open to all Quebec citizens (Province of Canada) and is sponsered by the major photography store and the major newpapers of the Province, so many people have access to the info about it and can enter....

There are 12 themes, and they gve away one D5000 per winner for each theme, so 12 cameras total.
One can only send one picture, not one picture per theme..

I'm sure some themes will have less entries, but I don't have any pictures corresponding either...

1- Winter Fun
2- Animals (pets or wild animals)
3- La Presse (the newspaper n question here)
4- Beautiful Nature (in the description they suggest landscape, I guess sunsets would be part of it to)
5- Cityscape
6- Most beautiful town
7- Garden and Flowers.
8- Favorite sport
9- Family moments
10- Traveling
11- Playing Outside
12- Architecture

And they will base their decision on;
- Clarté (lighting?)
- Composition
- Originality

#7 is my favorite, although I don't know much about photography.

#3, but 5 might have been better with other cropping.

# 9 for sure (as I said in the PM), I would fit it into "Beautiful Nature".

Good luck :)

Clean out your pm box.

As a note, anything I say here is just a matter of my opinion.

1: Something seems off about the composition. If the bee was on the other side of the flower. Perhaps if he was facing you more it would be a different story. Otherwise the dof is nice in that the background is blurry and its not such a color that it causes distraction.

2: The colors and all around tone of this shot are great. That being said, it just appears to be a bad angle on the shot that "ruined" this one.

3: It could just be me but the shot appears to be a little over exposed. Also while its not his/her fault the butterfly isn't exactly the best specimen.

4: To me this shot has potential. The flowers in a strait line seems to hurt the image more than help though.

5: Vibrant colors, Nice contrasts, Good dof. Also again this could just be me but its too bad the black at the top got cut off. This would be 1 of 2 of the photos I would consider.

6: While it may not have been something you could help it feels that the shot is too far away from the grasshopper. Also the subject is centered.

7: Looks a tad over exposed. While I like the composition It looks like the dragon fly is hitting its head as apposed to resting. Just something that struck me.

8: Its a funny shot. But, the subject is centered and you really cant tell what it is unless you look.

9: While the horses in this shot are centered it seems to work with the dark of the bushes/trees on the left and the sun on the right. Its just a shame the blowout is so sever. Could have been a great shot. As it is I wouldn't use this one.

10: Aaah 10.... Well. Im a fan of the shot. Personally Id say I like it better than 5. BUT. A couple things that strike me are how the fence just behind the dandelion ends as apposed to going past it. It creates the illusion that it merges with it.

Also while this isn't something that bothers me. It is an odd crop size. nearly twice as tall as it is wide that might rub someone wrong. The reason I would say I like this shot better is the fact that it invokes some emotion. Its not just a pretty flower it almost appears that there should be a story behind the shot.

I recommend you take a look at past winners if you have the chance. Also try and include some kind of story about the shot / shoot with your submission. It might help your cause.

Drew
