You are right, I have tried with other pictures I had as well, and wasn't satisfied at all at the way it was turning out to be...
Fortunately, it is easy to realize that right at the beginning...

did you mix this collor or did you put it by i "Eye dropper"/ "color-picker-tool"?
I'm still a little (LOT) lost using GIMP...
I clicked on the square for the colors, and a page appeared where kinda chose the color by pointing the mouse in different places untill I find what I like...
Sometimes it's hard to get the same or similar color.....
