I don't really care about the screen... the video feature is really cool IF you are into it.
If I were you though I would just keep the 450D and wait for something new, like the new XXD series.

or even better. Save some money and get the 5D mkII or it's replacement. I mean the xxD series is nice but it's still got a crop sensor therefore isn't really a huge upgrade from your XSI/450D.
Oh and in case you didn't know. A good camera body also need good lenses otherwise you won't see any improvement in image quality especially with those bodies that got very high mega pixels sensors because the higher resolution also magnify the lens aberrations. From what I have heard you will most probably have to get those L lenses to go with 50D/500D and their successors.

Yeah well i was gonna get a 5d mk1 off my mate but i thought there's no point payin that money because yes it's full frame but then my 136mm lens is actually a 85mm lens. I'm not that into photography to spend over £1000 on my kit. If i couldnt get a camera for under a grand id shoot film!

I'm sure u dont need an L series lens to get the most out of a 5xD>/5xxD>. Some lenses that don't have L in front of their name are still really good. For example take the 85mm f1.8 lens, its not L expensive (its pretty cheap) but loads of people say its good enough to be L standard and the L version of the lens is not worth the money (slower focus, etc)

But i do think in general you're right the better the lens the better the pictures.

HD video would be so nice to have. I can't believe it wasn't put in the 450 which is capable... That's how canon get people to spend their money! they make people with 450's wanna upgrade so much just because of that feature!

If your not into big tele lenses or really close macro shots, full frame is better choise. 85mm is really great portrait lenght on full frame, but if you want more reach out could go with 100mm f-2(or 135mm 2.8 soft focus). 1d mkII would allso be really good choise, pack it up with 100mm f-2 and you got near same lenght(130mm) as 85mm on 1,6 crop.

85mm 1.8 isnt near L-quality, people who say it is only look the sharpness or then they never had eny experiences with l-lenses(or they had crappy l-lens). 85mm 1.2 is waaay better than 1.8, af on 1.8 version is naturally faster, because f1.8 doesent need as much glass in the lens than 1.2, but 1.2 focuses better in dark. 1.2 might not be as meny times better as it costs more, but you need to pay more to get the top quality.

But before getting cameras like 5d or 1d mkII you should think if you actually need them. But because used 1d mkII costs as much as new 500d with kit lens, i dont see eny point of getting a 500d if you want quality pics.

If you want to upgrade just because better screen on 500d and randomly getting some video, imo dont do that, that would only be a waste of money that you could use much better.
