I have to agree with you on that one. I am sure most people take pictures so they will be able to bring back fond memories later on and not as fancy art. I didn't check the link the thread starter provided but I personally believe that 2 grand for a picture is a total rip off I mean with proper knowledge everyone could become a good photographer unlike painting...

I don't agree. Some photos I know I'll never be able to replecate, and I'd be willing to pay for prints.

Also, it's a case of supporting someone.

I'm more interested in photography as art as opposed to just snapshots.

What is your definition of snap shot vs photography?
Just the camera used or the effort put in capturing the perfect image?

The effort used, the camera is absolutely irrelevant.

edit: Effort isn't really the right word, it's the intent in the photo.

Not exactly, it's close, but it's not quite perfect.

Oh so pretty....

PRICE $1,100.00

If I won the lottery, I'd so buy something like this.

Oh I would never pretend to reproduce a pro's art pieces...
But I will enlarge and frame my own pictures that would also bring back memories, before I spend such an amount on a print or even a painting!!
Imagine the nice vacations I would have for the same price, and my pictures would include beautiful memories....
You can't buy memories.....

So true - I totally know what you meant there and I think this way towards other pricey things in life :)

Art has always been like this. A painting can cost thousands! Someone at my work paints and sells his for 1-2 thousand EACH. Same difference, I guess.
