I love the first! I like the DOF and the atmosphere. There is something special about the photo I can not describe.

I think the first one is great becuase of the lightning and the DOF. And the subject is somehow interesting. It is quite peaceful.

What i look for in a photo(art):

3) technical side, like right shutterspeed, f-number, right exposure, right saturation(for each color channel), flash usage, contrast or good edits if its edited photo

For snapshots its enough if the pic has composition and technical side well done, naturally intresting things are intresting to watch too


Mainly looking at the second one, the lighting doesn't seem right. The background is very bright and seems like the main source of light...however, the subject is fairly dark in comparison.

I am not saying that these are bad, I just do not see why they are getting the praise that they are.

That post does not mention the author saying that the pictures are not very good. Random snapshots and non-artistic pictures do not have to be bad.

There isn't always a definite reason why a photo is good, you just know yourself if it is or is not! :)


I do hope things that has been said here, especially what people look for in photos, is reflected in your future photography.

imo calibrate your monitor, learn something about photography and have a look at your own work. I dont want to sound arrogant, but imo theres nothing arrogant saying this to you

All that I'm looking for is a WHY this is a good picture. You can't explain it to me without having to downtalk my work...which you said yourself you haven't really looked at...
