This is a fantastic review site and has reviewed both cameras:

XSI:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos450d/

XS:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS1000D/

continous shooting means how fast the camera can take images one after another.
spot metering is a type of mode the camera uses to find the correct exposure
AF = Autofocus. The more AF points the more different parts of the frame can be selected to be in focus, in different images

So if I went for the 1000D it wouldn't have any of those?
Those are things I'd need though it seems :\

EDIT: Continous shooting is only needed if I were shooting action shots like skateboarding, sports, etc right?

yep continous shooting is for when you may need to capture somthing immediatly after. Like skateboarding - the 1000D can shoot fine in JPEG files, but very slow when shooting RAW. RAW is a file which means u can do a lot of editing to it before converting it to JPEG.

But like i said read those reviews, and see if you are really willing to spend a bit for, for those features. An alternative is to buy a used camera, like a 30D or 40D canon. These cameras are very fast and have some nice features. But when i first bought a DSLR i wanted a new one...

If you can find a place that still sells the older Rebel XTI you should totally get that camera instead. From what I have heard and read it's actually better than the XS and I really doubt that you will be using the LiveView thing on XS anyway :p

I'd MUCH rather buy a new camera opposed to a used one.
Atm I'm doing something so can only check here a little bit, will read the reviews later.
So the 1000D is the one that lacks all those features?

try amazon, and search Canon XTI or XSI. Of course you will need to shop around to find the best price, but i think thats a good place to start.
