I'd say that's a pretty good deal for a more than capable body.  Lens-wise, the 35-80 leaves things to be desired.  The lack of a wide angle when you're starting at 56mm, slow max aperture, presumably slow AF [due to it being quite aged].

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to be ready to take a lot of constructive criticism early.  A lot of the people who are ~18 or so fall into the trap of thinking their images are amazing and wonderful.  True, you might take some good shots early on but if you approach your own shots with an overly critical eye, you're far more likely to be able to improve your work.

Another note is not to post snapshots on forums and ask for critique.  Basically, have a purpose in each shot you post, asking for people's advice.  I doubt people need advice as to how to take a snapshot, they want advice on how to take photographs.  There is a difference.  Once you get past that, the world opens up to you.

Yeah, this is a good point to look at. Especially about posting some photos for people to critique on. smile.gif

There's a photography forum that might be the best place to post:

also wondering how much memory i should by for this bad boy, i plan on taking MANY MANY PICTURES in france...like maybe 1,000 idk if thats alot
but i bet ill get mad crazy with the camera, and i want pics in pretty good quality, prolly the highest res....dunno if thats a good thing

ANY TIPS Are Appreciated.
And is there anything u suggest  i get as im a noob to photography?

That's a good price for a great camera. Though it's a few years old but image quality wise it should match those newer camera bodies like XTI/XSI or probably even 40D/50D. Anyway you may want to get a decent lens too. I would recommend the 18-55mm kit lens for the Digital Rebel series. It's not the greatest but is more than enough for a beginner and is very cheap. As for memory card... I think your camera got a 8mpixel sensor, right? Well I have found that 2 GB is more than enough for my 10mp EOS 40D which could take around 400-500 pictures before the card gets full and you would probably be able to take 100 more pictures before it gets full. Well just try to get a card made by a well known manufacturer like Sandisk.

That's so true. You will never learn if you act like a pompous buffoon thinking that you are the best and everyone else are newbie morons lol. Being humble and open for criticism is very important if you want to learn anything.
I remember that I used to post quite a lot of snapshots in thephotoforum.com haha it was kinda embarrassing but I guess I just wanted to share some of the stuff I have seen that I found amazing and interesting. Personally I think there is nothing wrong posting snapshots but just don't expect people to give any positive comments wink.gif.

I don't think it really matters what brand-name it is, does it? Memory is memory ohmy.gif

Well I have asked a few of those "pros' on thephotoforum about different memory cards when I bought my first 40D and they told me that some of the no-name cards may not work with some cameras and you may will have problem when taking pictures in very low or high temperatures. Well maybe it doesn't matter but I guess I am one of those people who would rather pay more for quality.

Well, of course they're not gonna work if you get em from a dollar store but I wouldn't get the top of the line either ohmy.gif I spent 120 bucks on mine, probably got ripped off... but apparently it was "top of the line" at that point.

Oh! hey! Where the hell did you buy that card??? Is that the one you bought when you got your camera? Well ffs 120 bucks is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too much for a 2gb CF card I only paid like 35 bucks for my 2gb Sandisk Extreme III and same price for the 4Gb ExtremeIII when I saw a store in Sweden having sale on those cards lol. Well it's easy to get ripped off I guess course I kinda discovered that the 100 bucks I paid for that p&s I bought couple of weeks ago is a bit too much since it's an older model but oh well lol shit happens I guess.

Anyway my point is 2gb CF cards are quite cheap and the difference in price between a good Sandisk and a no-brandname piece of crap shouldn't be much, probably 20 bucks at most so I would rather spend 20 bucks more and be happy knowing that the card will most probably last at least just as long as the camera itself instead of taking a risk in getting a no-brand name card smile.gif. lmfao! I didn't know the dollar store sell cf cards but then again I wouldn't be surprised if some of them do because I have seen the dollar store near where I live selling mini tripods which probably would get totally crushed if I put my camera on it laugh.gif

Are those batteries new? Well I don't know about the batteries for XT but the battery for 40D could last very very long. I think I've taken around 400 pictures since I charged it the last time lol and the battery indicator still says it's full... which is weird lol.

Hmm... my battery lasts fairly long, but I have two just so if one does happen to run out, I don't have to worry about not being able to take pictures. The charge time on NB-2LH batteries isn't very long, either. So by the time you charge the dead one, the other one should still be working in your cam smile.gif I've been tempted to grab a 3rd one, but I'd only need it if I was going on a loooong hike with no where to re-charge it. I am sure two will be perfectly fine! biggrin.gif

Well I kinda want to get another one too but the battery for my camera is freaking expensive. It's 135 bucks plus tax -.- but I will probably need another one during the summer though lol. hmm I think it takes around 20-30 minutes to charge mine depends on how depleted it is lol.
I don't really think that you will need three if you don't plan to go hiking for like 3 weeks and you plan on taking more than 1000 pictures lol. In that case you may want to buy a battery grip too or an accessory pack for your camera which includes a battery grip and an extra battery that is if you can find one for your camera.
