Don't really understand the matchbox shot but okay.

As for the concert shots, I'm pretty sure they were taken with a Canon DSLR since there's a CR2 tag on the pictures, indicating the use of RAW file format [which you won't find on any Canon compacts other than the G's].

The photos themselves are pretty good but one of the things I'd really like to see more people do is to be more critical of their shots in the Import/Process stage and weed out the ones that A) Aren't focused correctly, cool.gif Aren't exposed properly and not correctable, C) Blurry, D) Repetitive, E) Generally uninteresting. Yes, you end up with a smaller album but I think that being more selective in what you keep makes you a better photographer after a while.

i was using my canon 1000d, shooting in RAW,

reason why some may be bad is the high iso etc i had to use because it was really dark at some points in the concert

it was my first time doing stuff like this too

i still need to weed out the worse ones and pick out the best, i just back them all up on photobucket for extra copies and accessability

and yes i am british, i notice most of you on here are in the US

Last time I checked Canada hasn't become the 51st state of the US yet lol and there are a lot of European members in here as well. One of them is Tomes who is a German but keep posting pictures of Finland lol.

I actually didn't notice the noise being an issue with any of them. The 1000D is pretty much like the 400D I use [sensor-wise] and with Noise Ninja applied to processed RAW files, ISO 1600 is pretty usable. Better to get a slightly noisier shot than to not get the shot at all.

I hope you have an external drive as well. My laptop crashed last semester along with a lot of my pictures and the process of re-downloading hundreds of pictures from online albums was a pain in the ass even with batch download scripts. Probably one of the best investments for a photographer out there.

You can even get that cheap Thermaltake BlacX and pop in a hard drive from a really old computer and use that if you're short on cash.

I think we stopped trying to take over Canada after we tried and failed 3-4 times. We'd love to have Vancouver though. Not that it really matters since flying to Canada means going through the Domestic terminal anyways. Contrast that to flying back to San Diego for the start of the quarter, when my gate was in the International terminal. Conclusion: Vancouver is more American than San Diego. biggrin.gif

haha It's ok I don't mind because I am not a Canadian citizen, yet and Canada is just like the US with very similar culture and language and everyone is driving in huge trucks and SUV lol but people here are more friendly though at least most of them are lol.

haha I take night photos without a tripod all the time biggrin.gif but it's only because I have a lens with image stabilizer and a camera that can take quite good high ISO pictures. Sometimes I would to go down on my knees and place my elbows on my lap as some kind of support lmao. It's challenging but it's also fun and you don't have to bring a tripod with you where ever you go tongue.gif. hmm are you the guy who suggested strapping a camera to your legs instead of getting a good tripod? If you are then you must have some really good tips on how to take good low light long exposure photos without a tripod tongue.gif laugh.gif
