Oh you were talking about the failed reversed macro picture hahahaha. Yeah I guess I will have to use flash in that one lmfao! Think that's the very first pure black picture I have taken so far, kinda amusing though lol.
I just took my lens off and held the other end tightly against the lens mount of the body and used the manual mode. I think I used ISO 800 and shutterspeed around 1/6 seconds so I am kinda surprised that the picture turned out to be absolutely black...

I've taken a lot of black pictures; the flash I use needed to get more power before it would use the flash again. I probably took a good 7 pics that were black because of the re-charge time on my flash was very slow.

hmmm were you using your built in flash or your Speedlight flash? I kinda noticed something weird too when I was taking those reverse macro shots. For some reason my camera wouldn't respond for like 2-5 seconds in between two shots while I was using the built in flash, I think lol. I wonder if it's the flash that was recharging or if my camera was just acting weird because it didn't have a lens attached sleep.gif.

the first of the last five you have posted is really good, well done

Thanks! I kinda like it too because of the very long shadow and the very distinct light and dark sides or whatever lol kinda hard to explain.

The flash was re-charging. My built in flash does the same thing. I know when it's doing that when it gives me a "busy" message on the LCD.

Yeah! That's exactly what it says on my camera too when I was taking those pictures. I was kinda annoyed because I was trying hard to keep the lens attached to the camera while keeping the right distance to the object so it wouldn't get a totally blurred picture. So were you still be able to take any pictures when it says busy on your camera? I couldn't with mine because the shutter wouldn't go off or whatever.

A good trick sometimes, too, is if you don't release the button all the way, (the button you press to take a picture). Then it will let you take a couple pics with flash. It wouldn't let me take no more pics when it says busy, but oh well.

I've only had mine for a year... less than that. I don't think I need a new battery, yet wink.gif 3 mins is ridiculous. Mine only re-charges for like 3-4 seconds then it's good... but that's after I've shot like 3-4 shots with flash. biggrin.gif

Ah! I didn't know that lol. Thanks for the advice. I guess I will try with my new Speedlight flash instead when I take reverse macro shots in the future to see if it's faster than the pos built flash.

Well I was using the built in flash and the battery in my camera was quite fully charged when I took those pictures but I have to agree with Chantal that 3 minutes is really ridiculous. I could almost imagine you standing there holding the camera waiting for the flash to let you take another picture again while cursing it lol jk. Which Speedlight are you using, Spencer? I think 3-4 seconds wait also applies to the built in flash on my camera and that's also after a few shots.

I was meaning without speed lite flash; your flash will do just fine, probably.

Well I knew that you meant the built in flash but I just want to see how the Speedlite would do in those macroshots. I will probably have to bounce the light off something in order to get the proper amount of light and avoid the stupid lens to cast shadows.

I took a picture of my US quarters earlier and so far I have only quarters from 21 states so I guess I still have a lot more to find. I also found a very interesting site about those quarters and other US coins.
http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/?action=50_state_quarters_program

and they even have a few tips on how you collect those coins: http://www.usmint.gov/collectorsClub/collecting/
