120$ is pretty much if your looking for cheap circ-pl, you could get hoya one for 40€ and thats about same amount in $ since we got higher taxes here. You could get hoya hd for that price and im pretty sure its better than that optex one, since it lets more light in while polarizing same amount, theyr easy to clean and 4x harder than normal filters.

So is that Hoya HD filter plain glass without coating or does it do something? Well I do want high quality filters because I don't want the coatings to disappear or having a filter that is easy to get scratches.

I just don't understand why it is SOOOO freaking hard to choose a filter lol I mean when it comes to lenses and camera bodies there are like millions of reviews out there but when it comes to filters I have only found reviews on B+W sad.gif.

There is some info on hoya hd

Well may I'll just go back to that store tomorrow and ask them about that Optex filter if it's any good compared to those more well known brands.

pro 1 costs quite alot, but hoya makes meny different types of filters. main differnce on pro 1 over that regular one is that the pro 1 is thinner, but hd is thin aswell. Enyways if you want to pay alot for it id suggest the hoya hd since it lets more light in that other circ-pl filters and coatings last for more cleaning and are easier to clean, allso they got coatings to prevent shit getting to it. I wouldnt ask store for eny advice on these, they just tell you just about enything to get most profit from the deal.

Well actually the guy whom I talked to earlier is quite nice I bought my camera from him as well and he was the one who suggested that I should wait till their huge sale in late April to get a tripod instead of getting a aluminum tripod they are having on sale now. He looks more like a nerd than a salesman, really and even though I know I can't trust a sales person 100%. I guess I'll just have to ask around or try to find some more info about polarizers lol but I may will get that Optex 67mm circular polarizer for my current lens though since it only cost 25 bucks lol.

Optex is not really a well known brand. I know they are sold in many local stores here in montreal but essentially they are not optically good filters (UV, polarizers, etc). I owned a couple and were essentially useless.

You might find some stores selling them for a pretty penny even but don't let price fool you to think it is quality.

found from nikonians forum.

If you can find normal kind of hoya filter i would suggest that instead(not hmc, super hmc or pro 1)

They look like this

Enyways i dont think that quality is that big of a deal on cir-pl since you wont be using that all the time, so that optex might do the work just fine

Uv filter on dslr is no different than non uv protective filter, since dslr sensor allready filters uv light(just like ir). Uv filters only makes difference on film.

I use it for protection ... from kids, swinging bags of women walking by me, and other things in the environment.

Oh I see. Thanks for the advice smile.gif.
I may will buy it anyway at least the 67mm the only problem now is that my Swedish VISA can not be used for buying stuff online here in Canada lol so I may will ask them at the store if I could just pay for the product at the store and let them send it to me.

As for the 77mm I guess I'll just save some money now and buy the Sigma 10-20 lens first before getting the filter lol.

One more thing you might want to know, that more wider the lens is, more important it is to have thin(quality) filter. Its because the lens looks at the center and when the lens is wider the filter looks more thick in the corners, making quality worse and maybe even make some vignetting.

On circ-pl filter i wouldnt care that much since thin ones cost like hell and you wont use it all the time enyways. Allso if you dont have lens(and camera) with superior iq bit crappier filter might not even lower the quality so much you would see eny or much difference at all.

For protection im using hoya hd filters because theyr good quality, easy to clean(people report that normal filters might get unusable in some time because of shit in filter) and theyr 4x harder than other filters. Allso iv heard alot of good things about hoya hd circ pl filters and people report they let much more light in while removing polarizing the same amount, but if you get one with like 77mm diameter they cost like 120€

Hmm - I'm using a Optex 77mm (just a normal filter for protection) - I don't know how good it is though, didn't realize these can even make a difference lol.
