At $900 you can get the XSi + 18-55 IS ($650) + 55-250 IS ($240). With this setup, you'll have 18-250 with IS. I have both of these lenses, and they are both capable of very sharp shots. The 55-250 is probably the best value telephoto out there. The 18-55 IS is a decent lens. Don't get it mixed up with the 18-55 non-IS when reading reviews - this lens is garbage.

Keep in mind you will also want a lens hood for the 55-250 ($22 for the canon one, $12 for a third party) a memory card or two, and a camera bag. In total, it will be closer to $1000 with those accessories.

The Canon 200EG backpack is decent for the price ($40.) I bought one and like it a lot.

Memory cards range in price, but I prefer to get name brand cards. Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III are probably what you want to go with for the XSi. The Ultra II won't limit your continuous shooting (when shooting at 3.5 fps the camera buffer is the limiting factor on the XSi when using the Ultra II or equivalent speed card) but the Extreme III will transfer files from the card to your computer faster. The card prices range depending on whether you get retail or bulk packaging, and they also tend to change from week to week. You can expect to pay about $20 or less for a 4 GB ultra II.

These prices are from Amazon.
