Nope, they use a "red light" (is what I call it) to do the focus, instead of the one-million-flashes-before-i-let-camera-shoot. Some others might do different, mine uses a red light sensor type of thing, you can see it in the one link i sent ya

This is one other reason why I got my flash, I f-ing hate that seizure flash!

The Sigma looks interesting, but it is only got the 1/1 and 1/16 right?

The red sensor takes the lengh from you to your focoused item/girl/boi/whatever and it flashes 1 time when you hit the mighty button

I have the 430... It's good, I don't know anything else,but it seems to work fin for me. =] You're much better than me though =[.
