just a couple of questions about your 17-40 L lens. I kinda want to get a good lens for taking nature and landscape photos and I am wondering if 17-40 is wide enough for it or is 10-22 better on a 1.6x crop body? and is the L lens much better when it comes to image quality than the 10-22?

The 17-40 on a 1.6x body is not that exciting, it's a very good lens, but it has a rather slow maximum aperture and a limited focal range... It's a full frame ultra wide.
I would not recommend it on 1.6X unless you want to replace the kit lens with some fancy L glass.
The vibrant colors and deep contrast are fantastic though.

For landscape use I highly recommend a 1.6X crop ultrawide. The 10-22s image quality is very good, much like the 17-40.
If I was in the market for a crop sensor ultrawide the Tokina 11-16 would surely get my money.

It's cheaper than the Canon, better built, sharper (as sharp as the Nikon 14-24) and... F/2.8 !!! It's a beast.
A friend of mine has it and it's nothing short of amazing.

yeah I guess 17mm isn't really much wider than those crappy 18-55 kit lenses. well so far I have only checked on those two and Sigma 10-20mm but I think sigma is a lil bit on the slow side compared to the others... have to check on the Tokina though but f/2.8 really sounds great! thanks!

i had that sigma 10-20 its great lens in contrast, sharpness, overall image quality and focusing. But there is some hard pincushion distortion at 10-14(and bit on 15-16) and i kinda hate it, even tho it can add a cool effect to some pics. At 10mm its so wide u can allmoast make eny view look like its a landscape
