There's a bundle being offered with the camera I'm picking up:

28-105mm lens + Canon 6D + Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 Lens + 32GB SDHC Sandisk memory card = $2480

OR

28-105mm lens + Canon 6D + extra battery + Canon camera carrying case = $2400

Wondering whether the 40mm lens is even worth the time, or if I'm better off getting a 50mm one day and forgetting about the 40mm. Only reason I ask is because of the cheap combo price, otherwise I would've never paid the 40mm a moment's notice.

the 40mm pancake? i've heard some pretty good things. i'd get that, a lense is always better than some stupid case.

I'm guessing for the $80 increase it's worth it. I need an SDHC card, and a 32GB will run me $30+ anyway. So getting a decent prime for $50 that likely has a $100 or so resale value seems to make sense.

I reserved the unit. Thinking I'll pick it up tomorrow, or I *might* leave in a bit to pick it up now. However, I want to make sure it's not my excitement that brings me to buy the unit. I'm about 90% sure I want a camera and not on impulse, but I'm being very careful this time (the fact that I'm telling myself I'm being careful is a bunch of denial since I think there's a lot of impulse going on in my head but goddammit the 6D is nice).

Yeh... it's like that. Parking is a bitch in Vancouver. If you know the place, you can get decent parking within a block or two of where you want to be, but it's still difficult. A lot of the time I end up spending cash on parking around here which really blows.

Vancouver is great though. I can't imagine myself living in any other province... except maybe the very East coast of Canada. Really it's just being in Canada and on the coast that I love.

Reason I couldn't get the camera today is dumb: I'm 23 and I told my parents the camera I want to get is $600. It's really $2400. They freaked out at the $600 cost, since they pay for my schooling, etc -- so they think I should be saving. So when I headed out it turned out to be too late once I got to the store. I'm going to have to pretend that I got the Canon 60D, since my dad might look at a review of the model... I'll claim the lens was second hand? Idk. Feels odd having to hide this shit... I save cash like mad so I can do things like this, and I live in an affluent home so a nice purchase isn't a huge deal O.O;

Forget the inconspicuous argument. You don't need a 40 2.8 pancake. A prime lens at 2.8??? Fuck that.

never tried that lens so cant comment
but if the extra battery in the 2nd option is an original canon then I would definitely go with that
the memory cards they add to bundles or usually the slow crappy cards as well, rather get a high speed smaller 16gb or 2x 8gb

It's a Class 10 good quality one. But I don't know how much extra canon batteries cost?

I've got a gf who's making me think twice before I buy, so I'm thinking this all through still. I can afford it and want to pick the camera up, but maybe I'll give it a week or two before I pick it up. The more I put it off, the more I want to get it...
