I went to the Washington Capitals home opener on tuesday and met the director of the fan photography.
He invited me to shoot at the Washington Wizards game tomorrow [Friday]

Here's the problem: they provide the camera.
I own a Canon, they use Nikon.

Can anyone give me some pointers on what to expect from a Nikon interface?
I'm pretty sure all I will be doing is taking pictures of fans, so mostly portrait style shots.
If anyone has been to a hockey/basketball game, what would you recommend for settings on a Nikon for the amount of light generally at basketball/hockey games?
I know it helps to know what lens and Nikon they use, I'm not sure. Looked like they were using a kit lens so I'll assume the lowest f.stop I can use is 5.x~

arrive 10 minutes earlier, checkout the body, its well build has an easy to understand interface with good naviagtion. Oh, you might actually like it and sell your canon.
dont worry, you`ll be fine. lightmetering etc is as usual. also if they provide you with a kit lens and cheap camera they wount expect much... ;O just take the money, they will probably be satisfied anyway...

nikons are generally more user-friendly, will take you a while to get use to them but you will be fine shooting in aperture, that wont change much

im a canon shooter and one time i was at costco, they had a d3100 out for sampling; it took me about 5 mins to locate and understand most important settings.

a basketball game can take a while so youll have plenty of time to shoot the game and whats left of wizards fans :P

where are you seated? on the deck or on the court?

Its so strange to me that someone would invite someone to shoot an event but not let them bring the gear theyre comfortable with..especially when the gear theyre providing is clearly inferior.

Oh yeah, I went there

All seriousness though, they didnt even let you know the body or anything? When I had one it was pretty terrible in low light, but it was a lower end model.

It's so they keep the pictures and I don't, I believe.
But I don't see why they can't just put a card in my Canon and I give them the card afterwards.

But yes, Nikon is inferior :P haha
