Yeah.uhm... So hello everybody! I have sone camera related question. I'm thinking about moving on, and changing my digital camera (fujifilm finepix s3200) to a dslr camera. I want to find a body under €550. I was thinking about canon eos 40d or pentax k-r. Which one should i take? Did any of you own any of them? Or could you recommend another you think is better? Oh, and video record function is not a must.

Additional info : i'd be using the camera to take pictures of nature, animal (mainly dogs), car

Thanks for your time, hope you can help me,too

I do not know much about Pentax, although, I do own a Canon (different model) and I absolutely love it. I have only tried Canon - their quality is great. In my opinion, I'd go with the Canon, because it's all I know. I know there will be more that will have a better reply than this, so wait for em !

Anyways thanks for the fast response. I just really don't know which one to pick, because i have seen several pictures from both camera with almost the same objectives and all are great.
The only compare i saw was this http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EOS_40D-vs-Pentax_K-r , and here the pentax won.

If it were film, I'd tell you to do the Pentax, as I have one and love it. When it comes to SLRs that's difficult, especially with your price range. I own a Nikon D5100 that cost around what you're spending. I love it, but I'm just starting with digital slr's.

nikon make the best entry lvl dslr
look at the following d3200, d5000 or (the older) d90
i cannot really comment on pentax as the last 1 i used was MANY MANY years ago and was film
i started with nikon and now use canon, i am in now way biased to any brand but truthfully nikon are better in the entry lvl

some people will try tell you to spend more money on lenses, but as you are not getting serious and will most likely be shooting on auto (or P) mode then its really not worth it - you may want to get a tele (bigger) zoom lens at a later stage though

Been using Canon for a couple generations now and wouldn't change to anything else!
My first digital point and shoot was a Canon , then got the XSi then the 7D.
Canon and Nikon have similar quality, anyone saying one is better than the other is only a question of preference... you see pros using either.

btw nikon is more user friendly and better placed controls
what is also important is how it feels in your hand, that was one of the main reasons i bought the d90 a few years ago, it just felt right

if the nikons are a bit too much then i would suggest the canon over the pentax, accesories are easier to get especially 3rd party or used original items and lenses
other option instead of the pentax would be a sony dslr, they are improving considerably

I think I'm starting to save up for the nikon d5100, that's perfect for me!
