Canon or Sigma?
Sigma is almost 200 $ more
Someone in another forum recommanded the Sigma over the Canon
Diameters: Canon = 58 mm vs Sigma=77 mm

Anyone has tried both and can offer any appreciation or both?
Thanks

I have only the 50 1.4 Canon and I love it.
Simple as that.

the sigma 1.4 is oft compared to the canon 1.2. I'd go for the sigma.

The Canon version will be faster, simple as that. You can't beat Canon's USM as far as I am concerned. I've used 5 or 6 lenses with HSM and every Canon lens with USM including their counter-parts have been faster.

Canon 1.4 is sharper than Canon 1.2 and Sigma's.
Canon 1.2 has better color rendering than Canon 1.4.
Also the 1.2 is tropicalized and has ring USM instead of micromotor USM, so it's faster and more silent.
1.2 costs 4 times the 1.4.

That's what I know about Canon's and Sigma's 50s.

on that comparison the sigma certainly seems better wide open
but from f/2 the canon is better

i would certainly go for the canon
is this for your horse photography? if so would it not be better to save a bit and go for a better suited lens? obv i do not know what lens/focal range would best suit it tho
