What camera would you recommend buying?

In my opinion you should get a Canon 450D, 500D or even 550D it doesn't really matter, its all about the lens. I got a 50mm 1.8 to start, and i must admit i really love the prime lenses now.
I would recommend you not to buy a camera with a kit lens, which is really crappy and useless.. get the 50 mm 1.8 for about 100$, its really the best way to start photography.

i started with a d3100 and love it. only different is hd video i believe. and maybe some mp difference.
