yes im onto the medium format. I had one of these to borrow recently and developed at my friends uni. but didnt have access to a scanner. For all my nikon gear i got :

Mamiya 645 Pro TL

AE Prism Finder FE401,

Power Drive Grip WG401,

Two x 120 Roll Film Backs HA401,

Mamiya Sekor C 80mm f/2.8 lens with Hoya skylight (1B) filter and Mamiya fold-back lens hood,

Mamiya Sekor C 55mm f/2.8 lens with Hoya skylight (1B) filter and Mamiya fold-back lens hood,

Polaroid Back (with Tripod Adaptor N-model 2)

A hp 4200x9600 dpi negative scanner - cheap but does anyone know what kind of scanner i will need to get large prints?

Loads of 120 film + some polariods.

Some chems for developing

As soon as i get it + the film (ordered the film from hong kong :/ ) i will post some samples.

Awesome mate :)

For large scans you will need to get drumroll scans at a lab.

4200 x 9600 = should print roughly 30 inches on the long edge

Thats big enough for personal use :P. Anything that turns commercial i could go to a company to scan it at a higher resolution.

Awesome. The two film backs will help a lot, as it means you can switch between them as and when you want.

Might not be the most portable system though, Mamiya 645's are quite notoriously heavy.

got it today. its a beast the battery grip needs 6 aa batteries just to power for 2fps lol :) it is VERY heavy. yes two backs will allow me to have two types of films and you can switch them half way through the film which i think is handy. still no 120 films, however i did take a few polaroids. will scan when my new scanner arrives.

6 AA's isn't too bad, that's what my Nikon F100 takes, though the body is a damned sight lighter.

Any idea what film you'll want to use?

well i don't know a lot about film so i have ordered several types. A couple of each but 20 rolls of shanghai as it was so cheap ^^

KODAK EKTAR 100 color
SHANGHAI GP3 120 B&W
KODAK EKTACOLOR 160
Kodak Professional Portra 800
FUJI PRO 400H 120 Roll
Ilford HP5 Plus

All just b+w and color nothing else yet i want to try them out and find a preference for certain things.

I've got a leaning towards Ilford and Fuji films, with Delta 100 and 400H being particular favourites, but it looks like a good suggestion already.

Kodak Ektar particularly is a really nice film, but it's got about the same exposure latitude as slide film, so you'll need to make sure your exposures are pretty much spot-on. The other films listed are quite a bit more forgiving.
