So, if I have your attention have a macro question for y'all ;)
This is a Polish contest of Macro Arena 2010 there is a few unbelievable shot !!! http://www.cyberfoto.pl/macroarena/110684-macroarena-zdjecie-roku-2010-a.htm
My question is simple how they doing that, well i understand most of the macro shooting but also I heard some people taking "model" to the studio.
Now since little bug, fly, spider etc... are in studio,(here is disturbing part) pro's putting them in to the freezer for few minutes? And then taking a pictures is that have any sense to you?
I'm afraid that when I put bug in the freezer:
a ) my wife will kill me
b ) as soon i will take it out its start melting
c ) I can eat that shit if I'm drunk :D

Let me know how you dealing with macro shooting in studio/outside.

bugs are cold blooded so if u put them in the freezer they dont die. they just slow down. (btw only put them in for 10-20 seconds)

I used to stomp bugs en mass when I was little, and I'll bet my left nut every one of you have too.

Just casting a 1-2 cold damage on a bug (which by the way, has mass cold resist) probably wont hurt too much.

I'll think about it. I've been meaning to ask Akara out for years now... she's a little old-ish but she seems like a cougar.

i think most of those were taken in the wild. how do they do it? good equipment, good lights, good post processing, good composition, right setting in the camera

I don't like the idea of killing bugs to get a good shot.
The challenge of taking macros of living animal, is the 'hunt' and the ability to near them without scaring them.
Ofc that is using a macro lens.
You can cheat and get a telephoto and not having to get that close to the bug and get some incredible pictures also.
This is what pieceoflace@flickr does and she gets some pictures to drool for!

Spiders are slow and you can manipulate them quite easily.
Chose one, put if where you want to do your photo shoot, then put it back where it belongs.
You will get your pictures and nature will remain.
