Hey guys/gals

What to look for in getting a tripod? I see ones that range from 100-800 dollars. I don't need anything fancy, but I don't want cheap either. My current tripod is just ... annoying to unfold each time, and it's made of cheap plastic parts. It's served its purpose I think. I am ready for a new one when I can afford it... but how the hell do you go about choosing the right one?

Get a sexy one like Eek did a while back.

I have no clue what he got. Feisol something maybe.

My tripod and head costed me well over a thousand. But I paid for the most heavy duty one I could get because I use it for my finish line camera. And I wouldn't put something as expensive as that on something that I didn't trust.

http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-055XPROB-Tripod-Legs-Black/dp/B000UMX7FI/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3BMYOAGTLMIR6&colid=1Y8XD5YMT9BJC

For it's price, this is likely the best you'll find.

I hear great things about Gitzo actually. But, I have never used one. Or seen one for that matter.

Doesn't seem bad, and it's around my price range. It looks like I'll need a ballhead for it, no? Which one do I look for?

That is a little crazy how you spent so much on a tripod... lol.

Vouch this article. Buy the best legs/ head you can afford.

Nothing against the 055xbpro, but if you intend to travel around with it ( i do all the time). Invest in a lighter carbon fiber tripod such as the Gitzo 1541T or a Feisol 3442 etc. As for ballheads, i would recommend something is that arca-swiss compatible.
