All I have now is the kit 55mm lens.
Is there anything you'd recommend that is cheap, but decent for the price?
Thanks.

I have a Canon 450d.
As for budget, basically just the best I can get for the cheapest price.
I shoot just about everything, but I thought about getting a wide angle or a macro.
I heard you can get a cheapish 50mm that will get good results.

Not sure what your budget is but a well regarded lens for the money is the 50mm 1.8. It goes for around 70-100 dollars and is a great low light lens and is incredibly sharp, even beating the 50m 1.2 until past f/4 i believe.

That lens is just limited to 50mm right? No zoom at all?

yea it's a prime lens so no zoom. The prime lenses are sharper than zooms since there is less glass and mechanisms inside the lens. Were you looking for a zoom instead?

No, not necessarily, I was told a 100$ 50mm is a good 2nd lens to get. I still use my kit 55mm lens that came with the Canon 450d.
I've never used a lens that has no range/zoom though, is it awkward shooting with a prime lens?
And is this the one you're talking about?

Oh the 50mm is so fun! I really enjoy this lens. It is a great lens to start with. I also started with a wide angle, mainly for nature/outdoor shots and I love it as well. You can also do shots like skateboarding with it as well, which sounds super fun to try sometime.

It's not that bad shooting without a zoom. You just have to move your body instead of adjusting the lens itself.

yeah thats the one I'm talking about. I found it a bit challenging at first to not have a zoom but it really helped me learn framing and composition.
