Hey, so the main reason for this topic was too ask you fellow photographers does anyone else own this camera : Cannon DSLR rebel xs (1000D) ? if so i was wondering if you could give me maybe some tips for this specific camera/ and if you could tell me the set up of some of your favorite modes to shoot in !

As for the rest of this topic i think it would be cool too post the little tips you people have picked up on your photography journey and post them so that other people (like myself) could use them as a stepping stone for their own journey. I find it's often the little twearks and things you learn that make something all the more special !

Anyways thanks and Cheers.

A rebel is only good in well-lit, relatively-slow-moving situations. Consider using a tripod. Learn to use your manual mode, and remember that because of it's cheap sensor, the iso capabilities are horrible.

I think you overestimate the importance of camera gear. It's not so bad at all.

Maybe I do. It's a decent beginner camera.

Manual operation, meaning you specify aperture, shutter speed, and iso ranges. Manual focus would be your next step, but many argue learning how to manual focus is an unnecessary skill since technology will eventually make it useless. I personally manual focus most of my shots.

I agree with onepage on learning to shoot in manual to take control on the lighting on the scene. Also learn your different metering modes such as evaluative, spot, and center-weight etc.

Shooting in Av (aperture priority) and Tv (time value) modes are great too to test the waters before jumping into full manual.

Also learn to "see" the scene and correct Ev (Exposure compensation) to match what you see.

Just a side note: the 1000D is an excellent beginner camera. The image quality is still very nice, just make sure to try and keep the ISO 800 and under. :)

Just practice on anything you find interesting! Take a picture, look at it, and figure out what you can do to improve that picture, and then figure out how to improve it. :)
