This morning, i woke up at 5am to drive out to a local meetup where other photographers teach us how to photograph wild birds, how to light them with strobes (if we have to), and their behaviors.

It was a great meetup as i have learned tons from those veterans and got to meet some really cool people.

The shots from the day.

First off, "Bob" the bird was nice enough to pose for us during the small lecture. :P

I believe the rest of these are Mockingbirds. (They told me but i forgot :/) It's amazing how they know what bird it is just by hearing it sing or that a Hawk was near when they hear "alarm" calls from other birds.

I seriously need a longer lens T_T My 100-400L is not long enough, even when shooting at 400mm, i have to crop away 70% of the image. I need that 600L

Excellent light this *early morning. xD

I have a 1.4x Extender. But using it = no AF on the 100-400L. And i'm already on a cropped sensor.

Birding is already hard enough as it is. MF doesn't help my already low keeper rates.

And those shots aboves, i literally had to sneak up on the bird.. sometimes it works.. sometimes i scare them and they fly away.

I blame the white lens!! Time to switch to Nikon.

I think you need to learn to be a bit better at sneaking. I can get shots like this with a 50. :D

i will shoot some birds this week, with my 50mm and/or crap kit lense
its better if u wait for the birds to come to you, but then u gotta be really patient, could take hours for a shot
