What are you using to calibrate the monitor.. Maybe it's the printer that's off.. I have a colormunki photo that i use to calibrate my u2410 H-IPS panel and to profile my printer.
Not using the paper profile can also lead to awkward colors.
As for the brightness issue, 100 cd/m2 is what you want to calibrate your monitor to if you want the same brightness on your prints. I tend to set my monitor at 110~ cd/m2.. which on my specific monitor means a brightness level of 7 out of 100.

What I meant was that on the mac I used to print this it came out beautifully and I loved the atmosphere I got even from the print. Here on my pc at home the photo doesn't have the right atmosphere and it looks too...happy? flat? the colors aren't as rich even after I lowered the brightness of my screen lol I still love the photo though. and what does that mean? the whole 100cd/m2 thing?
