So I finally figured out how much of a difference a calibrated monitor actually makes on a photo because this particular photo had a much more gloomy look to it like the prints I did than when I opened the same image on my pc. Right now it looks a little bright and slightly more magenta than it did on my print. Enjoy

practice btw

What are you using to calibrate the monitor.. Maybe it's the printer that's off.. I have a colormunki photo that i use to calibrate my u2410 H-IPS panel and to profile my printer.

Not using the paper profile can also lead to awkward colors.

As for the brightness issue, 100 cd/m2 is what you want to calibrate your monitor to if you want the same brightness on your prints. I tend to set my monitor at 110~ cd/m2.. which on my specific monitor means a brightness level of 7 out of 100. :D

What I meant was that on the mac I used to print this it came out beautifully and I loved the atmosphere I got even from the print. Here on my pc at home the photo doesn't have the right atmosphere and it looks too...happy? flat? the colors aren't as rich even after I lowered the brightness of my screen lol I still love the photo though. and what does that mean? the whole 100cd/m2 thing?

Contrary to popular beliefs, Macs are not calibrated from the factory. I have a Macbook Pro and the colors are off until i calibrated it. cd/m2 is a unit of measurement for brightness.
