Hi, I just got into photography for my very first time. I just recently got a cool camera and I always liked photograph because something about incredible pictures keep's my mind at peace. But anyways, I really would like to get really good and I want this as my new hobby. So I was just given an Old school camera called Canon T50, and it was first made in 1981 and stopped production at 1989 and it's a 35mm film camera but for it being 20+years old, It's really easy to use and take very nice quality pictures. I have done my homework about this camera so I know what i need to know about it but I would like to get better and have a good editing program and stuff. There's a good and bad thing about this Canon, good thing it's really old school and it's film! bad thing is I need to take my rolls at some photo center to get them developed =C ..but other than that! I love it! so can anyone help out a beginner in any informative hints & tips? cool programs, devices, etc etc..

I didn't know if the camera worked and I was a bit skeptic about a free camera working, specially from the 80's so I grabbed a roll and started taking some shots this morning and got it developed..Here is my very first photo taken with my T50 early this morning.

And here is my T50 and the parts that came with it

Imo, obsolete is not artistic or 'cool.'

Then your opinion doesn't count :P

Just because this camera is out dated doesn't mean it cannot do what it was made to do, take photos. Isn't that what photography is about, taking photos? Remember that some people don't have the money to spend on 2x 5D MK II's... Don't bash on someone for wanting to get started with photography. Who cares what anyone is shooting with... Worry about the shots mate, not whether his or hers gear is obsolete. If you should bash on anyone... Bash on the people that are starting photography and only worry about photo editing, because that is not photography.

Agreed. In my opinion some of my best shots were actually on film and with cameras that are over 30 years old. The camera is only a tool, the artist is required to use that tool to make a photo, it's just like saying that someone can't make an amazing drawing with an old pencil.

So my gear suck's? I know I'm a noob, I know I just started and I need to practice my skills, I'm still learning my camera and what all the little numbers do on all components..I don't care about editing but I would like a cool program to give few touch up's on the pics. But yea just because this camera is old don't mean it's not good still, I bet this camera takes better pictures then your digital's "if taken right" only advantage you all got is that you guys can control whether you want to keep that pic or not and be able to view the shoot in your tiny LCD screen......But oh well.

E:/ It's my first camera! (Real camera, not the very small fit in your pocket cameras) and it was free, Plus it's from the 80's meaning I think I got an antique and it work's perfectly fine. Plus it help's me learn more about the past technology of cameras.

Note: That this is film so that first pick was uploaded in my comp threw a scanner so that pic ain't looking too great like the one in my hand's.

I dont think anyone said it sucks :3 Personally Im a bit jealous because Id like to try film out. Id go for something cheap yet awesome like a Holga though, nn another complicated camera

As for the photo, Id say you should work on your composition. Especially using film, because its not like you can review what you just shot, and its costly to develop.

The background bothers me a lot with the odd angles of the house and the small bit of grass, theyre a huge distraction imo. I would have also cropped the left where those white blurs are.

Otherwise the flowers are a nice subject, Id say try again.

Not bashing on anyone, but I know that those that say "it's not the camera- it's the photographer" are full of shit. I give 40/60 emphasis.

i hear "its the artist that paints the picture, not the brush"

but it certainly helps if you have brushes that aren't broken/sticking together and worn out etc.
but theres still no reason why you couldnt take good shots with that over9000 year old camera =P
i actually have that same flash and the upgraded vivitar 2000 right beside me =P
until i upgraded to sb-600

i actually find it more fun shooting with my older (not ancient) film camera.
i also think it makes you much better because instead of trying 1000000000 times to get a shot like some would with their digitals, you have to make every shot count unless you wanna spend tons on film
