Not looking for "google" answers. I also read through the sticky for buying a new dslr.
Mainly looking for people who have experience in the lower end cameras.

I'd like to spend somewhere between 200-400 for a new camera. Atm I just have a decent kodak P&S.
Can I get something decent for the price range or am I gonna have to fork up a little more money?

The 1000D is currently within that price range. it´s a pretty good beginner DSLR and you can definately do all basic kinds of photography with it. Nikon should have a smiliar model for about the same price. its the d3000 I think but I dunno alot about nikon.

I have the d3000 and I like the camera :)
It offers plenty for the money it costs.

If d5000 is within your range, I'd go for that :P

It's only a Sony A200 with 18-55 lens

Ohh okay. :) If the camera and price was right, I'd consider buying a used one, just to have two... :huh:

That Sony A200 is inferior to your XTI anyway :p
If you are really looking for a second camera maybe you should check usedRegina.com. There are people from your area who sell on there too. I think a month ago I saw an ad that someone in mj wanted to sell a Rebel XSI with a bunch of decent lenses for only 500 bucks!

@OP
You want to add an extra 100 or so if you want something really decent or at least noticeably better than your p&s. The Canon Rebel XSI is cheap now and I believe you can get a new one for about 500 with a kit lens.

Keh is great for used gear. Sucks that i have to pay tax in georiga though.

Used from B&H and Adorama is another great place to check.

Well the problem is those of us who live in Canada have to pay shipping plus customs duty when we purchase from the US :( and it may still be cheaper than buying locally but I just hate the hassle and the risk :p
I hope to go to the States next year so maybe I will buy some "cheap" lenses hehe
