Soooo, since there are people making topics about wether they should buy this or that lens next like... ALL THE TIME, I thought I`d just make a topic where everybody can ask questions related to lenses and hopefully get help by the rest of the community. So if you got any questions concerning lenses of any kind, feel free to use this Thread if you wish.

I´ll start off:

I am thinking about buying a super wide angle lens anytime soon. Aiming on a USED lens because I cannot really afford new ones atm. First of all, I need recommendations. What experiences did you make? I´m on a 1000D. so would you prefer Canon / Tamron / Sigma or maybe Tokina lenses? Whats with the crop factor? Any suggestions are welcome. THX

The Tokina 11 - 16 2.8 should be good. Optically great and built like a tank! :D

uhmm well yeah I`m tending to prefer the Tokina 11-16mm. I´m trying to find a good used one for maybe half the price. that´d be awesome. pretty hard I guess tho. Tokina isnt really too well known here in germany.

So definitely the Tokina 11-16... just because i have one :D

I've done tons of research before i throw down the dough for that lens.

When i was researching, these were the other lenses i was looking at.

-Canon 10-22 f/3.5-4.5
-Sigma 10-20 f/3.5
-Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6
-Tokina 11-16 f/2.8
-Tokina 12-24 f/4

-Optically speaking, most can agree that the canon 10-22 and tokina 11-16 is at the top of their class.

-Build- Tokina 11-16 wins hands down. I was at my local camera store (Showcase camera) when i was looking to get a thinktank streetwalker HD bag for my trip to NYC. While i was there..I also looked at the Canon 10-22, tokina 11-16 and Sigma 10-20. Tokina has a "L" build quality to it.

-Best bang for your buck- This is of course objective.. but i'll have to say the Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 and Tokina 12-24 f/4. You can find a used Tokina 12-24 for around $300 used and the Sigma at roughly $375~.. as for the Canon 10-22, i've seen quite a couple hovering at $550-600 used. The tokina 11-16 is almost impossible to find since demand for that lens is huge. Even used, you'll be paying pretty much full retail price of $600 with some places marking them up to $700.

If you want a tokina 11-16 f/2.8, keep an eye out for Cameraland's store on eeeeebay. They occasionally have a few copies in stock. That's where i got mine from. I needed it quick so i paid for overnight shipping.. the lens cost me $617 shipped and with BCB and eeeeebay bucks which brings the total down to roughly $560.. which is a bargain IMO.

Edit: I've uploaded one of the pics i took with my Tokina 11-16.

ISO100
F/11
Focal length-11mm
Shutter Speed- 1/60

Ignore the leaves in the background, it was pretty windy so 1/60 wasn't enough to stop motion blur.

2nd edit: need to find a different uploader.. they're resizing my image.

thx so far. I´m still having trouble with the price :(
Seems like I cannot spend 600 bucks for a new lens atm.

I uploaded to that twice and i can't locate the file in the directory.. odd.

I gave up and just did a 100% of the image with a resized full version in link.

100% crop from center with no sharpening except convert to .jpeg.

Original resized full version.

Being a UWA, the detail is incredible IMO.

P.S- Anyone know a good uploader? Photobucket doesnt' do this lens justice.. There is detail lost in the photos.. major difference on web compared to lightroom.
