Which one produce better image quality?

I know its all about the photographer, but I'm sure one of the cameras is better then the other. Any tips?

Image quality wise.. both will be very similar, but I do believe the Xsi is the superior camera.

If it's your first DSLR, i strongly recommend that you head to a camera store and play with those in your hands, feel them and mess with the menu etc and see which one you like best.

for me i think canon.
but i always liked nikon lenses better.

Nikon lenses are indeed very well build, the image quality is also excellent. But most Nikkor lenses are more expensive compared to Canon counterparts of equal quality with a few exceptions. (Nikkor 50 f/1.4).

I really want the XSI but people are telling me 40D are better, arent they outdated .

If i'm not mistaken. The Nikon D3000 replaced the D40.

But if you're talking about the EOS 40D (Canon). The 40D will no doubt be the winner.

Shit, here comes the whole Nikon vs Canon nonsense. Everyone's opinion is biased on this subject imo. They are either Nikon person or Canon person. Really, both cameras can produce shots with great quality.

Eek is correct about the D3000 replacing the D40 is correct, but the D40 is better. Keep that in mind.

The Canon looks slightly better on paper. It is slightly faster, slightly. 1/2fps I believe. Honestly, you won't notice that difference as a beginner. Secondly, the sensor is slightly bigger. Again, as a beginner, you won't notice the difference. Slightly cheaper than the D3000. It has live view, where you can see what you are shooting on the back LCD screen. To me, that feature is almost useless and should not be a deal breaker. Lastly, it has 12.2 megapixels compared to 10.2. Megapixels don't mean shit. Unless you are going to have prints over 20''x30'' it will not matter.


The Nikon D40 has better high ISO performance, no question. Easier, more beginner friendly menus. Better built in/on flash. Nikkor lenses are better, slightly more expensive yes, but better. Any Nikon mounted lens will fit, and can be used on this camera. People always try to say that older Nikkor/ other Nikon mounted lenses aren't compatible with this camera. Untrue. The auto focus will only work with newer AF-S or older AI-I (pro) lenses, that much is true. BUT... As said before, you can use ANY older Nikon lens to take a picture. Which gives you more lens options. Every AF-S and AF-I lens will auto focus, auto expose and meter. Every AF and AF-D lens will auto expose and meter, but will not auto focus. AI-S, AI, and Non-AI lenses won't auto anything, but can be used fully manual. And honestly, some of the older AI and AI-S lenses shoot better quality than the newer lenses. Plus older lenses are more durable, made out of metal vs plastic. And shooting manual is so much more fun... Haha...

Anyway, what it will all come down to... Seriously... Is going to a store and playing with both. After doing that, you need to decide which one feels more comfortable to use. Whichever that body is, is the body you need to get.

Why would you want to print at more than 300 DPI?
