I want to get the Canon Rebel XSi or The T1i
but I think T1i is way to expensive for me.

Is the Canon Rebel XSi Good enough?

I wanna be able to take pictures of people and make them come out really nice,

Something like macro shots.

I think the xsi is great for starters. I would go with the cheaper model, there's always going to be better out there, and you can't really afford that other one. It's no big deal if you get the xsi, I am using a model lower than that and I can get some pretty good photos.

Go for the Xsi. It's a very solid performer/ beginner body ;)

It's what i have as well.

If you're wanting to do macro. A cheap way to do it is with a set of extension tubes.

Yep.

I'd definitely get the 40d over the Xsi :)

Well that's true. But i'm sure New Xsi = used 40D body only.

I guess you can spend $90 on a nifty fifty or get a 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS lens.

the kit lens that goes with the Xsi is pretty respectable.

atleast in finland new xsi body only is same price as used 40d without lens from shop, and that 40d comes with 1 month warranty.

The Xsi is a toy compared to the 40d :/

Honestly, you would be better off spending 300 odd more and get the 50mm 1.4. Much better focus under low light conditions.

The 18-55 is horrible :/

True, i really want to upgrade to the 40D.. but i'll hold out and save for a 7D.

Correct me if i'm wrong but 40D =

Better ergonomics (grip)
Better construction
Weather sealed
Better AF in low light.
slightly better high ISO noise performance.

As for the Canon 50 f/1.4. Wouldn't the sigmalux be the better alternative? Creamier bokeh and slightly sharper (if you get a good copy ofc)

18-55 IS is pretty respectable for a entry glass.. pretty sharp when stepped down. :P
