Ok....
You all win... well, maybe, not yet...

You guys do great stuff with that thing you call photoshop.
But it's not free.

I am not asking how to get it for free, well...... nah, j/k lol

But.....

Before I buy something that is totally new and unknown to me, I would really love to know how it could be useful for my own purposes.
I only see the end results of your pictures, so I don't know how much improvement was done in the editing process...

I am quite old fashioned myself, having only done 35mm and only started digital about one year ago without any guidelines others than what I am learning with you all.
Btw i really appreciate all the imput you give me and I feel I have improved so much with your help :)

Ok ok, enough ass kissing :evillol:

Back to Photoshop...

I would like to know how my pictures could be improved with such a program, if it can.
The dragonfly shot.

Could anyone make it better and explain to me what they did?
I do not want to use the result for any purpose other than learning and convincing me if I will or not invest in buying an editing program, and especially get frustrated in learning to use it...

Do you remember when you had to explain to your grandmother how to use a vcr???

Here's the picture.. (or if you want to edit any of my other pictures, just troll the photography forum and use whichever you like...)

Thank you all in advance!

Use "Lightroom" instead. It is easier to use. :)
You can get a lot of knowledge from youtube.

btw will edit. :)

I have to say it is the photographers job to edit it. I can not say if this is good or not.

I have to say that when I first started using photoshop I got frustrated really easily (but I do that when I cannot figure out where/how something is) and it is quite a complex program. I learned on my own by at first making signatures for myself, messing around, doing tutorials, reading tutorials etc and of course posting for help in the GFX design forum. It takes time learning it, but I really am glad I learned! If you want, before purchasing this huge expensive program, you can download the "free trial" to get a feel for it and what it's like before spending a lot of $$ on it :)

Did you use Lightroom or Photoshop?
How is my original 39 kb and you came up with a picture that big 273 kb :o
The green is nice, but there is a bit of loss in the tail of the dragonfly.... like I was getting at first when my shots of it were overexposed....

You can find by google ALOT of tutorials and outcomes, also check out deviantart.
Imo, you should def. get it

Most my pictures are not too bad without any editing..
Well, I try to improve my photo skills so I don,t 'need' to edit...
But the case of the dragonfly is one that I don't think there was anything I could have done while taking the picture, to make it better...
That is why I picked that picture as test picture to see what people could do out of it and if I would be convinced to go out of my way to learn a new skill as well....

I did it quick. I used Lightroom from adobe. You can get a trial like Chantal said.

photoshop is a really easy program to use, at first when i got it, i was so confused as where to start and what to do, but when you open up a file and play around with all the features and settings, you eventually get the hang of things, and then you can make everything with your own personal taste.

most of the time i use it for graphics but, when i do photos, i use it to resize, and sharpen.

but other things you can do are, dodge/burn, add brush effects, enhance makeup, clear up faces, light/contrast photos <---dont like that. and so many more. personally if you want a photo to be a certain way you can just look up tutorials and then youll most likely remember them after that, or you can bookmark them like i do. ^_^ there really isnt a limit to it, and its fun. :)

Really the best use of photoshop is not to create great photos. As you know, photography takes hard work and sometimes you can shoot all day for a handful of good photos. Photoshop is better used to repair images. For example say you have a great shot of a bird, but it's got power lines in the background - you can use the clone stamp tool to get rid of those and "perfect" the photo. I am on several car forums and I find it very useful for car photography, especially since everyone wants their ride to look "picture perfect!"

Hope this helps

Words do not convince me.... :(

The results stay yours, I will not use it to my own benefit other than looking at it here....
