I was going around my pond and I took a first series of pictures, but they were all overexposed..
I went back out and tried some more...
But the 'butt' of the dragonfly was reflecting so much light, that I was having a really hard time...
So it's either you don't see details or the rest is too dark..
This is the most 'middle' picture I was able to take....
I hate taking pictures mid-day sunny....

Comments and recommendations appreciated...

I really liked the DoF that the flower [a lily, right? XD] on the lily pad adds to the picture.

I am somewhat scared of Dragon flies, and I could imagine how hard it is to even get a picture of them!

I would say maybe try at a different angle, so you wouldn't get that bright reflection on his body... I'm not sure it would have worked in your situation but I thought I'd suggest it for next time if it does happen. Good job on capturing it though, those things give me the creeps and I know they are completely harmless! :O

good composition and focus, but maybe crop it nearer to the subject next time... i dont know what camera your using, so i cant really judge on how close you should get :)
If you have a nice macro lens go reeeealy close and focus on the wings, the detail is insane. Also, try every angle possible when taking photos of insects as there so complexed (without scaring them off)
Me and my friend do some macro shots ... maybe they'l float your boat ( a little insperation if you want? ) - Im jelous that you have a pond also...perfect place to take pictures.
