I only got one decent shot out of 19... well, I'm not sure it's so decent, but the lightning bolt is awesome! (in my eyes)

The storm came and left pretty quick. Normally I'd go outside the city to take a picture, but it was raining and I have nothing to cover the camera. So I took some from outside my place :D

Speaking of this - they make rain covers for cameras right?

Hey you know I was outside earlier trying to get some decent shots of lightning but I wasn't as lucky as you were lol. I will post my pictures soon but they were mainly of the stormclouds with no lightning at all :(
That shot of yours looks awesome! Which settings did you use? Well I actually bought myself a rain cover a few days ago hehe and it's great! It's called Op Tech Rain sleeve and is quite cheap I think around 10 bucks for two.

EDIT: I just found a demo video of that rain sleeve - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_B8HV6-F6c

I just told you to show it in an other thread. xD

Chantal, I like the photo. Of course it could be better, but it is quite hard to catch lightning.

Yep! Would have been better if I was on the outside of the city with no lights or stuff in the way ^_^ Thanks!

Hehe - ok thanks! It is hard to catch lightning, yes. I used 30 seconds, F 8.0, ISO 100 for this shot. I normally go 30 seconds when it comes to lightning. And also if you can and have time, try different ISO's - the color can change :D

Edit: let it be known, I took 16 pictures just to get this ONE! I counted wrong, xD

Rain Sleeve's :)
OR use a garbage bag!

@Rookie:
Not that hard, just long exposure, lots of patience and lucky timing ;)

I like it Chantal, but I think I like your other lightning shots better! (Although, the lightning in this one looks much bigger!) The tree is in the way :( But I still love it!!

It all depends on how frequent the lightning shoots. If it's like 1 every minute it's pretty hard to catch. A couple within 30 seconds is easy. :) Try opening your shutter for at least 30 seconds! As TheBlackRose said, it's all about luck and timing.

Thanks - Hehe - yeah, I like my other shots better too! I was actually on the outside of the city so nothing was in my way :)

Bags tend to be annoying, I'll try the other ^_^

Thanks for the info and advice :)
You know I actually took 35 pictures that night and got none :( but as you said I should've chosen places with less buildings and street lights lol.

If can't get those rain sleeves in MJ and don't want to drive all the way to Don's you could use those plastic film you use to wrap groceries and food with.
