The Canon EOS 450D is slightly higher than Canon's EOS 1000D/XS Entry level XSLR.
I got this in October 2008, and have been using it ever seance. I love it.
I was looking in the market for something good, that I would be able to use to learn with, and advance my photography passion.
It is, by far the best Entry level DSLR (in my opinion)
This is because it is NOT the lowest entry level Camera by Canon, is it slightly higher. This means, that as you advance, you will be able to get more out of the camera.
With a 12 MPCMOS sensor, 3.0" LCD monitor, Live View with both AF modes (contrast-detect and passive),
14-bit processing and RAW, spot metering, improved AF, 3.5 fps continuous shooting, a larger viewfinder, SD/SDHC storage and a new higher capacity battery, it is definitely
an excellent DSLR!
Some of my favorite aspects:
-Great feel. When you pick up the body, it feels very solid and durable.
-ISO, I can get up to 800, sometimes even higher at 1600 without noise. (Most cases not though with 1600.)
-I like the "P" Mode, it lets you chose everything except speed/Fstop, this is great for learning and perhaps suggestions if you don't know what speed/stop range to be in.
-Can use both EF & EF-S Lenses.
-The 9-point Autofocus system is excellent!
-The battery life is exceptional! I've never had a camera with such long battery life. (I've had it on for 4 hours straight before without it dying.)
Some of my least favorite aspects:
-A small amount of noise @ 1600 ISO.
-On camera flash produces harsh shadows (but I guess it's like that for all cameras)
-The 3" LCD is beautiful, but I can't stand how close it is to the viewfinder...fingerprints and face oils get all over it sometimes (Or even hair gels etc.)
Overall, it is a PERFECT camera for somebody who is serious about photography and wanting to get into it more.
It works perfect, and always gives me what I'm picturing in my head.
Although the 18-55mm Kit lens that comes with it is really bad IMO, You can get some great shots with other lenses.
The 28mm Wide Angle lens works perfect.
The 50mm Prime is definitely one of my most favorite lenses to use with it. (Definitely get a 50mm if you get this camera!)
And paired with a 70-200mm, I can get great shots.
With all three, you are set to go.
I would recommend this to ANYBODY!! (Even pros as a backup camera)
I am now looking to upgrade to a 50D Mk II Later this year. (Probably October)
(Or, if a newer, better one comes out, that.)
