It's definitely a good start, with potential.
And, yeah, I suppose that if the table works, there's no reason not to use it.
If you want to get into XML, javascript, php, and other web languages, and you don't already know this site, there's www.w3schools.com, which is what I used to learn PHP and XML.
While these languages can be useful, learning them can be a real hassle, and I don't know if it's altogether worth it unless you intend to do some really dynamic application.
I was reading up on php a few weeks back and it seemed a little complicated, I'll wait and see if my teachers cover it next year before going head on into it, otherwise I might try to learn during the summer, when I'll have a lot of spare time.

i'd add a colour tease as in a dark blue or a dark red if you get what i mean. other than that i like that 3 D thingy in the lower left corner. pretty neat. Nice pictures too,
Normal links are blue, so there's colour there! Hah, no, but really, I'll have a look at adding some colour in the header. That Flickr widget does rock though.

yea web design is pretty darn complicated - I found that out VERY fast not too long ago

as for the site, I too agree that it need a little something to spice it up.
Maybe some type of pattern that is very subtle, like a pattern set to like 25% opacity so that you can see it but the page remains mostly the black theme you want.
P.S: the photo's are great!
Standard HTML/CSS design isn't too hard, it just takes a while to get it looking how you want, I might put in a dark background images to cover the areas that go outside the 1024px box.

The photos are really nice, however I agree with above, the web design in general is a bit bland. I'm not sure why since I'm not very experienced in web design (

This has always been on of my all time favorite photography galleries. Some of the photos aren't my favorite in it, but I just love how it's designed and setup.
http://www.perfectography.com/gallery/Overall pretty nice, very nice start and has a lot of potential, I look forward to seeing it in the future!
That gallery's interesting, going to download jalbum and see how it works. Thanks

You don't need to be experienced in something to offer valid criticism

The black and white design is awesome (easiest on eyes and makes the pictures look better). The "make your photos go in a circle" thing on the left/bottom side is neat, too

Never seen that before!
I'm not sure what I'd change, but nonetheless, it's simple... but to be honest it doesn't "wow" me.... hmm. Just don't get too horribly fancy, then it just gets tacky.
Btw are you doing the portfolio for fun? Or for school? Or other?

Hah, I've got no intentions on making it horribly fancy.
It's both for college and fun, something to keep me occupied while I'm bored.
