Hmmm... I have a memory card in my Canon Rebel XTI and it's 2 GB. I have 746 pictures left to take, using Resolution: 3888x2592. It is the highest on my camera. I haven't filled up my memory card, YET! lol

I would learn the basics first with an SLR camera, cause they are much different than a P&S. Soon enough you'll appreciate an SLR camera more than a P&S. (Point and shoot)

I would juts go out, take a pictures and learn from there (that's what I did with my first DSLR ! biggrin.gif) There's always the manual to read too if you have trouble and don't know how to change certain settings.

Also, if you want, do you have a tripod? Even just something to start you off. I've had a lot of fun taking night shots with my SLR, since you can change shutter speeds and it makes lots of fun ^^

It depends which lens you're looking at... you can get wide angle lenses, zoom, and other types.... I don't know a whole lot about lenses, but I am sure there will be someone to reply that does smile.gif Some of them can be quite expensive, though, if you want to get a decent one.

I'd say that's a pretty good deal for a more than capable body. Lens-wise, the 35-80 leaves things to be desired. The lack of a wide angle when you're starting at 56mm, slow max aperture, presumably slow AF [due to it being quite aged].

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to be ready to take a lot of constructive criticism early. A lot of the people who are ~18 or so fall into the trap of thinking their images are amazing and wonderful. True, you might take some good shots early on but if you approach your own shots with an overly critical eye, you're far more likely to be able to improve your work.

Another note is not to post snapshots on forums and ask for critique. Basically, have a purpose in each shot you post, asking for people's advice. I doubt people need advice as to how to take a snapshot, they want advice on how to take photographs. There is a difference. Once you get past that, the world opens up to you.

Compact Flash cards are pretty cheap nowadays.

2 GB is more than enough if you're the type that empties them after importing to the computer.

Check Newegg and don't be afraid to buy lesser-known brands. They work just as well.
