Ok, so March is coming up, which means another month which means a new toy happy.gif
I've narrowed my choices down to a Laptop and an HD Camcorder.

Both are in the same price range. (800-900)
Now, For March I am trying to decide between the following:
-An HD Camcorder (As a photographer, I'm also into making "how-to" videos on Photography to help others learn some techniques, and a Camcorder would do the job.) And when I travel this summer
me and some friends are planning on making a short film to enter in the Toronto film festival 2009, so 2 HD cam's could be better than 1 happy.gif (And I will be video "journaling" my travels this summer)
-A new HP Laptop (I just got my Desktop, which runs Photoshop and edits all my photos at home like a powerhouse. The problem is, my current laptop being 2 years old, is crap. The battery lasts about 30 minutes on a full charge. It
only has a 40GB HD, and can't even run Photoshop Elements 5 ohmy.gif) So the new Laptop would consist of a 250GB HD, 3Gb of RAM, 16", dual core 2.1Ghz which is a HUGE upgrade. It would do all my photos
on the go and be the storage and upload device while Im not at home.

The new "toy" I'm getting it April is plane tickets to wherever I decide to travel this summer. April also my 16th birthday = party.

BUT, (Here is where it gets tricky with tough decisions)
MAY- I could buy whatever I don't get in March. So if I buy the Camcorder in March, I could get a laptop in May. Or, vice verse.
I'm not sure what to do. I have an HD camcorder set out and researched, so if I wait until May to buy the Laptop then I could get a better
one then.

Juny/July are gone to nothing, to be spent on travels.

Any suggestions/ideas please happy.gif

try the computer hardware section!

id get the camcorder first because computers are getting cheaper and more advanced all the time. So maybe if you wait a few months longer for the laptop, you could get one with double the memory for the same price, etc. They are also falling in price faster than camcorders, so get the camcorder first and laptop second.

I decided to reopen it,

I'm still looking for suggestions/advice/ideas.
A camcorder is a photographic tool taking photos using multiple exposures, there for it is NOT off topic.

Lol.
Videography is capturing the exact same thing as photography, just at a faster speed.

well, I'm a 17 year old, and I have both a nice video camera, and a nice laptop (I worked very hard for these) Personally, I would recommend a laptop over the camcorder. Based on myself, I use my laptop every single day, where I only use my video camera to capture skate/snow boarding mainly. (my family also uses the camera for vacations and when I play sports) I also use my laptop at my school, where I edit my photographs a videos I've taken. I currently own an 12' HP Pavilion laptop, with a core2-duo processor, along with 3 gigs of RAM and 512mb of dedicated graphic memory. I can run Sony Vegas 8.0 and PS CS3 with NO "lag" what so-ever. ( a bit when I render HD video, but even my mothers intense G5 Mac does that)

There are just more things I can do on my laptop verse a camcorder. I get more time out of it, and I'm able to use my laptop instead of my school's crappy computers.
