I got a tip for you.

You can put higher f-number on the lens, but adjusting f-number first, holding down the dof preview button and taking the lens off the camera at same time, now the f-number selected will stay on the lens after you remove it. If you remove the lens normally lens will be wide open and naturally focused area will be really(too) small.

hmm is there actually a dof preview button on XTI or 40D? I don't think that I have seen it on mine or maybe it's called something else? Well it sounds like a good idea since you have to change everything manually with a reversed lens and I guess you have to use the full manual setting on your camera as well. Oh and I have kinda discovered that when using manual focus on my camera pictures could turn out a bit out of focus even though it looks sharp when I looked through the viewfinder. Is it because I am wearing glasses or that I need to adjust the viewfinder or something? sleep.gif

Oh and those are some very interesting pictures. So far I haven't really be interested in macro photography because I just can't afford or willing to buy a macro lens and I didn't know where to buy those adapter rings. Well I am going to check out at my local camera store next week to see if they sell an adapter for my lens which is quite a bit wider than your kit lens sad.gif.

oh!!! Yeah there is three buttons around the lens mount on my camera, the upper one is for the built in flash, the middle large button is lens release button and there is this unknown button at the bottom lol I have wondered what it is for but I kept forgetting to search for it online or on my manual biggrin.gif lol I have to admit that I am not the kind of person who would actually sit down and read manuals. The few times I have read manuals was when I really really had to biggrin.gif.

First of all the viewfinder isnt that good on 40d(you can get better screens for it afaik), if you havent corrected the diopetric adjustment(that little wheel next to viewfinder) and your eye sight isnt +/-0 or really near that you cant manual focus with your eyes. There is focus confirmation tho that you can use on manual focus, even if your eyes lie.

Be careful when removing the lens while the camera is turned on though, It could cause short circuiting!
