Hey the pictures below were taken with my canon 450D and kit lens at full zoom. Shot distance was 45+ yards. No edit - straight from camera. This owl is 100% wild so it was pretty hard to get these shots without a tele lens.

Hope you enjoy them!

That's sweet! biggrin.gif At least you could capture it and it's not totally blurred or anything. Of course you can do better on the shots with the right equipment, hehe.

They are quite good for pictures taken with a crappy kit lens smile.gif. I am sure if you had a better zoom lens like one of the 70-200 L lenses then this one would have been really good. btw aren't you the guy who recently bought a 55-250 IS lens? or did I just mixed up with someone else ohmy.gif

id have used that if i owned it tongue.gif
only the kit lens here sad.gif i am planning on getting a 70-200L second hand when they come down in price coz they sell for almost new prices ohmy.gif although i might do some work and get a 200 f2.8 USM but we'll see.

hes really clever and can dive so sharp because if he sees you he'll turn on a sixpence. and if you see him hunting he stops dead and drops like a rock. i love photographs with a bird of pray with somthing in its beak or claws but you need a super tele to get close to the wild ones.

I don't think that I have seen an owl out in the wild and I have heard that they are very shy but I have seen several hawks and eagles in the past though.
I have heard that the 70-200 f/2.8 L is a super nice lens especially for wildlife photography smile.gif.

Thanx smile.gif
Yes there are 3 types of focus methods on most dslrs. The first being One-Shot meaning the camera will only focus on the subject once after you have depressed the shutter button halfway. The second is AI focus which does the same as One-Shot but if you hold the shutter-button half way and it finds that the focus needs to be adjusted it will do so. The final mode is AI servo focus - this mode is if you are tracking a moving targed and they must be kept in focus all the time, the camera will focus for you and keep doing so as long as the shutter-button is being depresses half-way. For example if you were wanting to take a picture of your friend standing still, you would use one-shot. But if you wanted to take a picture of your child running towards you to capture all the different expressions on their face you would use AI servo along with the continuous shooting mode.

Manual focus for moving targets is really hard, even though the lens ive got isnt that fast at focusing im so grateful i had this feature biggrin.gif

Nice you should try getting a picture of an eagle because im sure you can manage, you've got a USM lens as well!!
I mean the 200mm f2.8L PRIME - the zoom is too expensive and if you look at the number of shots people have taken with the 70-200 the majority of them is at 150-200mm. Im looking at some reviews and it looks like an amazing lens - its black as well biggrin.gif

Oh lol I have to admit that I have never ever used the AI servo focus on my camera even though I know what it is for and that I would have to use it when taking pictures of moving objects I guess I just never thought about it when I was walking around taking pictures so the results were really crappy sleep.gif dry.gif.

Oh I think I have seen that lens and I believe it's one of the cheapest L lenses. Well I guess it would be a really nice lens for shooting wildlife (lol that sounds so cruel). You better post some pictures and tell us how you think about it after you have bought it wink.gif course I may will get it as well in the future tongue.gif. Yeah I do agree that when taking pictures of moving objects USM is almost a must.
