Keeping in mind the average person will use the kit lens for quite a long while and probably not dabble with primes until much later on [when they'll probably go for a higher up body], the lack of the motor isn't a big deal.
For the price, it really isn't that bad if you're just getting started. You have to remember that most people jumping in wouldn't be able to justify the cost of having 3+ good primes to cover the range as opposed to a regular zoom.
Get it from staples instead. $375 + Tax.

Get a memory card from Newegg and a cheap UV lens of the right diameter from Amazon if you actually feel the need to protect a $100 lens.
