so im going to a cullinary arts competition tomorrow at a college down here, and ive been picking through photojojo and a couple other websites looking for tips and tricks for exciting camera angles for food (closeups) and competition winners with their dishes.

my question is this:

is there anything in particular youve noticed works exceptionally well when taking pictures of food? (positioning the camera around the light, angles from camera to table for the finished dishes, etc)

EDIT: if it helps any, im using a canon eos rebel xs with the standard 18-55mm lens

if i had asked for a reference link to a site ive already read, i would have asked for one. my question was is there anything YOU in particular have noticed works exceptionally well (i.e. personal experience), not some rando-commando on another website

I think those guys your websites you find from google are more professionals at food photography than here at jsp.

thephotoforum is a nice forum to discuss photography, no doubt about that! But personally I just think some of the people on there are just too serious and stuck up as if those amateurs like me are just a bunch of stupid kids or something - lol Well to be fair some people on there actually helped me picking my very first DSLR and I am sure if you have any questions about photography hardware many of them wouldn't mind to help you and give you advice.

I've never had any problems there, lol. If you go to a place where they specialize in something, there are of course going to be serious people there, no matter what.

Yeah you are probably right. Well I just find many of those so called professionals in that forum boring it's like you can never really start a conversation with them. The only time I actually had a good "chat" with someone was in your thread - lol with that yahoozy guy. It's not that I am complaining again or something tongue.gif I just wish some people would open up a bit more and make some jokes or something instead of being professional all the time but of course I am sure a lot of the members on there are in their late 30s and older unlike on the people on here biggrin.gif
haha I guess there are some very serious people on here too like those who play D2 24/7 and never post anything on here except for game related stuff rolleyes.gif and those on their friends lists are the only friends they have, thats just sad.
